Dilemma Response

Apparently, many people felt outraged by “The OpenSim Dilemma” post.
I apologise if anyone felt I was targeting OSgrid. It was simply an example of a problem common across many grids - it just happened to be the one I logged into that day.
To those who claimed I "know nothing":
After 21 years spent in various virtual worlds and grids, I believe I have more experience than most.
To those who accused me of wanting to make money:
At no point was money mentioned. If I wanted to earn money, it obviously wouldn't be on a grid with no currency. Frankly, I wouldn’t recommend it at all. Spending eight hours on an item that sells for roughly the cost of a cup of coffee? You create for the love of creating.
If you want to make money you’ll earn more flipping burgers at your local McDonald's.
And then there were those shouting about their right to change permissions:
In the previous post, I mentioned some excuses people use for altering permissions.
What I didn’t mention is that in 82% of those cases they also changed the creator's name.
I think we can surmise that this was probably the primary goal for changing the permissions. So, let’s stop hiding behind ideology.
Why do 8 out of 10 feel the need to do this? I don't know the answer, but I suspect it’s tied to prestige, ego, or acceptance of others. Even if changing the creator's name seems minor, it’s worth remembering that we share our world with these people. What else might they do when no one is watching?
Now let’s get back on track
Imagine a new supermarket opens in town where all the goods are free. Wow!
But there is no shampoo in the bottles, no beans in the cans, no eggs in the cartons. Everything is empty. Of course, people return to their regular store.
People need functional content if we want them to stay - it's foolish to think otherwise. Broken or non-functional items affect population. It's the reason you struggle to get more than ten people at your party. It's why so few see the talented work in your gallery. It's why there is good chance that right now, you are standing in a region - alone.
